The “You Belong” Project

It all started with the intention to teach some grade five students about the personal impact that they can have on others by expressing gratitude to the kind volunteers around them in their school.

A song idea then came to Carson in the form of a phrase and accompanied with a melody. He immediately pressed the record button on his phone and recorded the very same tune and phrase that starts the actual chorus of the song, which is “You belong . . . right here.”

From there, two grade five classes worked as a team to write the lyrics for the verses. As PSIII interns, Erin (The piano player and companion songwriter) and Carson (the guitar player), worked together to develop the music and the rest of the lyrics in-between the verses. After a few weeks of song writing, editing, and recording, the song “You Belong” was birthed into existence.
